Leicester eye top defender of Nigerian descent to replace Chelsea transfer target
Published: August 26, 2022Leicester City are keen to replace Wesley Fofana with Borussia Dortmund's Switzerland international centre-back of Nigerian descent Manuel Akanji if Chelsea are able to make an acceptable bid for the France youth international of Ivorian descent.
The offer from the Blues should be exciting as 20 free spins no deposit.
Fofana is being targeted by Chelsea to bolster their backline after the sales of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
The Telegraph on Thursday evening has scooped that Switzerland international Akanji whose father is Nigerian is the preferred choice to arrive at the King Power Stadium before the summer transfer window shuts in less than a week.
Akanji was also linked to Arsenal when the Gunners were considering making bids for one of Lisandro Martinez who has since signed for Manchester United or Oleksandr Zinchenko whom they eventually signed from Manchester City.
Akanji has not made an appearance for the German Bundesliga side this season but was in action in 26 league games in 2021-2022 for the team.
Fofana is not expected to be named in Leicester City's matchday 20 when they battle Chelsea in a Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as the Franco-Ivorian has been banished to the development squad.
