Published: August 25, 2022
Super Eagles striker Josh Maja has been named as the first-choice penalty-taker for Ligue 2 outfit FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
Ahead of FC Bordeaux's Ligue 2 encounter against EA Guingamp on the 27th of August, 2022 the coach was quizzed by reporters on who his penalty taker for the season is.
In quotes related by Bordeaux dedicated website Girondins33, David Guion said : Josh Maja. He has a great faculty in this technical gesture.
"Today, there were no young people to replace him. It is a technical gesture to achieve which requires a detached side when striking. see it in training, Josh fulfills quite a few of those conditions."
One week before the summer transfer window closes for business, Bordeaux will be hoping Maja can stay at the club to lead their immediate return to the French topflight having suffered relegation due to them finishing bottom of the 20-team Ligue 1 table.
The Sunderland academy product has been linked with possible moves to clubs in the EFL Championship and Belgian Pro League.
The 23-year-old Nigerian has scored 12 goals and assisted four in 56 appearances since joining the French giants in January 2019.
Maja has one cap for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, making a cameo appearance in the 2-2 draw with Ukraine in 2019.
