Nigeria legend questions Arsenal's mentality despite promising start, hails Saliba's strike
Published: August 23, 2022Arsenal’s mental fortitude could be the bane of their promising season according to Nigeria legend Victor Ikpeba.
Ikpeba while analyzing last weekend's games in the English Premier League spoke on the Gunners' quickfire start to the new campaign with Fulham their next opponents.
Mikel Arteta’s team beat Bournemouth 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening to go to the summit of the Premier League with nine maximum points after three matches.
"The biggest problem I have with this Arsenal side is when they lose games, how do they really react? That's very important," the 1997 African Footballer of the Year said on Monday Night Football, monitoreed by allnigeriasoccer.com.
"So far it looks very easy. They might even beat Fulham in their next fixture but anything can happen in football.
"So far, I think the results will bring out the best out of other players who are not playing at the moment.
"You go to Bournemouth and win (after wins against Crystal Palace and Leicester City). They might even get four out of four.
"I think what Jesus brings to this team is special. Ødegaard was at the right place to score the second goal. "
Ikpeba hailed the quality of the third goal from Arsenal that came from France international William Saliba.
"I think I love the third goal so much. The way (Granit) Xhaka brought the ball back and Saliba finishing in style. The team is on the high and I think Jesus's involvement has changed a lot on this side. I'm happy for the fans but there's a long way to go," Ikpeba stated.
