Chelsea close to reaching an agreement with Manchester United target
Published: August 10, 2022According to reports, Chelsea are ahead of Manchester United in the race for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Times UK claims that The Blues are close to reaching an agreement with Barcelona over a transfer fee for the Netherlands international and are awaiting the decision of the 25-year-old.
It has been suggested that De Jong's move to Stamford Bridge could materialize for a fee of 80 million euros.
Manchester United had already agreed terms with the Blaugrana to sign De Jong last month but the player is not keen on moving to Old Trafford because they are not participating in this season's Champions League.
It now remains to be seen whether the Dutch player will agree to leave Catalonia to join Chelsea, who can offer him Champions League football.
Chelsea have been busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Former Ajax Amsterdam star De Jong is tied to Barcelona until June 30, 2026.
