Man Utd 1 Rayo Vallecano 1 : Shoretire comes off bench in Ten Hag's home debut as manager
Published: July 31, 2022Premier League giants Manchester United engaged in a pre-season friendly against La Liga side Rayo Vallecano with the final score ending in a 1-1 draw for both sides on Sunday evening.
The game at Old Trafford, United's last pre-season fixture before their Premier League opener vs Brighton & Hove, was Erik ten Hag's home debut as Red Devils manager.
Manchester United were unable to return to winning ways after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in Oslo during their last pre-season fixture before this clash at Old Trafford.
Nigeria-eligible winger Shola Shoretire had to settle for a place on the bench at the start of the game against Rayo Vallecano.
New signing Christian Eriksen fired a right-footed shot from outside the box which swayed to the left after a lovely pass from Tahith Chong in the 30th minute with the first half ending in a goalless draw.
The goalscoring was opened by Amad Diallo whose left-footed shot from very close range found the bottom right corner two minutes into the second half.
Rayo Vallecano equalised in the 57th minute through a left-footed shot from Álvaro García which nestled into the bottom right corner.
Zidane Iqbal replaced James Garner and Shola Shoretire came on for Garnacho in the 73rd minute.
Telles had a chance in the 87th minute after a beautiful pass from Isak Hansen-Aaröen but his long-range shot was too high.
Diallo also had an attempt blocked in the 88th minute after some good combinational play from Iqbal.
Despite a lot of attacking impetus from both sides, neither was able to find the winning goal.
