Super Eagles midfielder Iwobi stars as Everton thrash Dynamo Kyiv in pre-season friendly
Published: July 30, 2022Premier League side Everton concluded their pre-season preparations ahead of the new season with a feisty friendly game against Russian side Dynamo Kyiv at the Goodison Park Stadium on Friday night.
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi made the starting line-up as the Toffees walloped Kyiv with a three unreplied goals.
England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring with a delightful header after James Tarkowski sent in an inviting cross.
The first half ended with Everton taking the slim advantage but things changed in the second half. New signing Dwight McNeil came on and made an instant impact by netting a second goal for the Toffees.
Iwobi was instrumental in the build-up to the goal as he picked up the ball and went past a player before releasing McNeil into space.
Fellow new signing Vinagre them sent in a cross in the 77th minute which met McNeil unmarked in the box and the ex-Burnley winger made no mistake from close range.
The Toffees claimed their second pre-season win tonight after beating Blackpool last weekend. Their other matches resulted in losses against Minnesota United and Arsenal during their tour of the United States.
