WAFCON semi-final: Three Nigeria players to watch out for as monumental clash draws closer
Published: July 18, 2022
The Super Falcons will lock horns against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a semifinal clash of the African Women Cup Of Nations today Monday, July 18th 2022 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat, Morocco.
This will be the Super Falcons' fifth game of their title defence. Randy Waldrum's women lost their opening match before winning back-to-back games against Botswana and Burundi to qualify from the group stage.
A slim 1-0 victory over Cameroon set up the mouthwatering clash against Morocco which is set to take place tonight.
While the Super Falcons are fine favourites due to their status as defending champions, Morocco wouldn't be an easy clash.
While the Super Falcons players have generally been impressive, some have performed excellently while others have been underwhelming.
Ahead of the game, allnigeriasoccer.com highlights three Super Falcons players to watch out for as the clash against Morocco draws closer.
Rasheedat Ajibade
The Atletico Madrid forward has taken over the taliswoman mantle since Asisat Oshoala got injured and ruled out of the tournament in the opening game against South Africa.
It is worth noting that she scored the only goal that set up this semifinal clash against Morocco.
Now that the tournament has got to the last stretch, will Ajibade be able to inspire her country to the final?
Christy Ucheibe
Has been a rock since she was introduced to the team and never looked back. A definition of raw power coupled with her insane drive.
Keeping up her performances will be crucial for her in cementing a permanent place in Randy Waldrum's midfield. Will she be able to take this opportunity?
Osinachi Ohale
Nigeria's monster in defence. Her ability to read the game and interceptions are crucial in driving the team forward.
While Ebi has been the leader for many years, Ohale has shown her leadership qualities in this tournament by taking charge of the defence numerous times.
However, taking charge in pressure situations is a different ballgame. Will Ohale swim under intense pressure and show that she is capable of taking over the defence from Ebi permanently? Or will she wilt under the pressure? Only one way to find out.
