WAFCON Nigeria v Burundi : Two Super Falcons players that need to step up their game
Published: July 10, 2022
The Super Falcons will lock horns against Burundi in the third group stage game of the African Women Cup Of Nations on Sunday, July 10th 2022 at the Moulay Hassan FUS Stadium in Rabat Morocco.
This will be the Super Falcons' third game of their title defence after Randy Waldrum's women suffered defeat in their opening match to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa with a 2-1 scoreline and won convincingly against Botswana with a 2-0 scoreline.
However, despite a good game from the Super Falcons against Botswana, some players were not at their best and allnigeriasoccer.com thinks they need to step up their game or risk being left out.
Rita Chikwelu
The midfielder has had a very quiet Awcon tournament. While there have been good efforts from her, nothing has really clicked for the Madrid CFF player.
At such a crucial stage of qualification for the knockout stages, the Super Falcons can not afford to carry passengers.
If she is unable to step up her game, another midfielder may be given a run-out while she is given a rest which could be exactly what she needs.
Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene
The Eskilstuna FC midfielder was an unused substitute during the Super Falcons' opening game against South Africa.
However, she was given a 63-minute runout against Botswana and she wasn't spectacular.
While she kept things tidy, it was evident that she was playing with the handbrake on. In a game where Nigeria needs to take the initiative early, Okobi needs to step up or be left out as other players are really pushing hard for a spot in the team.
