Three Nigeria-eligible youngsters training with Celtic first team in Austria
Published: July 08, 2022Celtic head coach Ange Postecoglou has taken three Nigeria-eligible youngsters to Austria for a training camp ahead of the forthcoming season.
2019 Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide, goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi who is the younger brother of former Super Eagles invitee Joshua, and exciting midfielder Bosun Lawal were part of the group that traveled to Austria this week.
The three players have yet to make their debuts for the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership and will be hoping to catch the eye of the Greek-Australian football tactician, before a decision is made on their future - whether to keep them in the first team or loan them out to continue their development.
The Nigerian trio were named in the matchday squad as Celtic brushed aside a hapless Wiener Viktoria side 7-0 in their first pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening.
Oluwayemi was a non-playing substitute against the Austrian Regional League outfit, while Urhoghide and Lawal were in action for the entirety of the game staged at Bad Erlach.
The Scottish Premiership champions have lined up friendlies against Rapid Vienna, Banik Ostrava, Blackburn Rovers, Legia Warsaw and Norwich City as part of preparations for their first competitive game of the season against Aberdeen.
In another development, promising striker of Nigerian descent Eseosa Sule has signed his first professional contract with Celtic, six years after joining the Academy.
The 16-year-old is now tied to the Glasgow giants until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
