Teenage Nigerian CB continues training with Arsenal first team ahead of trip to Germany
Published: July 02, 2022Nigerian central defender Zach Awe will fancy his chances of being included in Arsenal's traveling squad for their pre-season training camp at adidas HQ in Germany, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Three days before the start of the pre-season training camp, manager Mikel Arteta monitored him at close quarters as the Gunners stepped up their pre-season preparations with another workout at London Colney on Friday, July 1.
Awe was among the five youngsters of Nigerian descent that trained with the first team on Wednesday, June 29, the others being first team players Arthur Okonkwo and Folarin Balogun, and development squad stars Mazeed Ogungbo and Miguel Azeez.
The tall centre-back missed the last one month of the 2021-2022 Premier League 2 season due to injury but has seemingly recovered from the ailment that kept him sidelined.
Awe also missed several matches when the season started through injury, limiting his total appearances for the Gunners youth teams to fifteen in all competitions.
The 18-year-old joined Arsenal as a right-back at U8 level before he was shifted across to central defence, and is also capable of playing as a central midfielder.
