Roster adjustment : Two-time World Cupper and Swedish-based striker called up to Super Falcons
Published: June 20, 2022
The Nigeria Football Federation have announced that two players have received call ups to the Super Falcons ahead of the forthcoming 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations.
Eskilstuna United attacking midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and another Swedish-based player in Anam Imo have been called in as replacement for Chinwendu Ihezuo and Desire Oparanozie respectively.
No reason was given as to why Oparanozie and Ihezuo pulled out of the roster exactly two weeks before the start of the 2022 AWCON in Morocco.
Okobi-Okeoghene's initial omission from the provisional roster came as a surprise considering that she has been active for her club Eskilstuna United and even scored in her last two matches in the competitive Swedish Damallsvenskan.
A two-time World Cupper, the flamboyant midfielder was part of the Super Faclons squad that won the AWCON in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
A striker by trade, Pitea IF star Imo was a fringe player for the Super Falcons at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France and was an AWCON winner in 2018.
Twenty three invited players have arrived at the team's training camp in Abuja including Amanda Uju Mbadim, Toni Payne, Yewande Balogun and Michelle Alozie.
