Nigeria began their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone at the National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday evening.
The three-time African champions fell behind in the 11th minute when Jonathan Morsay scored with a diving header but the Super Eagles turned the game around before halftime thanks to brilliant goals from Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen.
Four Super Eagles players, who played a key role in the win, in the shape of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Iwobi, Osimhen and Moses Simon have taken to social media to react to the hard-fought victory.
Though he didn't get on the scoresheet, Nantes winger Simon gave a good account of himself, setting up both goals scored by the Nigeria.
Five minutes after going behind, an exchange of passes between Iwobi and Simon ended with the Everton star emphatically finding the far corner and Osimhen made it 2-1 at minute 41 when he drove the ball into the roof of the net after the number 15 nodded down a cross from Aina.
