Super Eagles' vacant coaching job : NFF battling Morocco for ex-Manchester United defender
Published: April 14, 2022
The Nigeria Football Federation are reportedly battling their Moroccan counterparts over the services of former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc.
Get Football News France says former PSG, France and Bordeaux manager Blanc has interest from African national teams Morocco and Nigeria over their coaching positions.
A World Cup winner with France in 1998, Blanc has emerged as a candidate to be appointed the new Super Eagles coach on a permanent basis.
The 56-year-old is currently out of job after his contract with Qatari club Al Rayyan was terminated because he did not achieve the expected results.
Bosnian football tactician Vahid Halilhodzic qualified Morocco for the 2022 World Cup but the Royal Moroccan Football Federation are considering firing him seven months before the mundial due to his poor relations with Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech and Ajax Amsterdam fullback Noussair Mazraoui.
The Super Eagles coaching job is vacant after the Nigeria Football Federation parted company with interim boss Augustine Eguavoen in the aftermath of the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, and a foreigner is their preferred candidate.
Eguavoen enjoyed an excellent start as Nigeria's caretaker coach, winning his first three matches, but was given the boot due to his recent patchy record of not winning any of his last three matches while in the dugout.
