'I still love him' - Ikpeba laughs off Osimhen shading him over bicycle kick comments
Published: April 11, 2022
Retired Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has laughed off comments from Victor Osimhen regarding his advice to the Napoli striker to be more composed in front of goal.
Last week, the former African Footballer of the Year criticized the Super Eagles number nine for attempting to score a spectacular goal during the World Cup playoff against Ghana at the National Stadium in Abuja,
Ikpeba felt that Osimhen should have controlled the ball first before hitting target rather than taking bicycle kicks that yielded no results.
In the wake of those comments by Ikpeba, Osimhen in partnership with Barcelona Femeni attacker Asisat Oshoala went on a social media rampage, aiming digs at the 1996 Olympics gold medalist, so much so the two Victors trended on Twitter for most part of last week.
It would appear that Osimhen heeded to the advice of Ikpeba and look no further than his latest goal against Fiorentina, where he had to control a long pass with his chest before blasting the ball into the roof of the net.
Towards the end of SuperSport's Monday Night Football, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, the Ikepba-Osimhen feud cropped up with fellow pundit Segun Agbede insisting that Osimhen must apologize to Ikpeba.
And Ikpeba showed remarkable maturity and class saying, 'He's a young lad, I still love him. Victors are all like that', while laughing off the incident.
Ikpeba is a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, where he is involved in developing Nigerian football.
