Osimhen teaches Balogun a lesson Super Eagles final workout in Abuja; Napoli striker unplayable
Published: March 24, 2022
Victor Osimhen reported for international duty on Tuesday in red-hot form for Napoli, with a brace in each of his last two Italian top-flight outings, becoming the first ever Nigerian player to reach double figures in the scoring charts in two different Serie A seasons, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 23-year-old has taken that form with him on Super Eagles duty given his performance in the final workout on Wednesday evening, before the team's departure to Kumasi.
One of the interesting matchups during the training game on Wednesday was the individual duel between Osimhen and Balogun, which the Super Eagles number 9 easily won.
The Super Eagles striker was too hot to handle for Balogun and the Rangers center back would have been sent off assuming it wasn't not a training game.
Balogun, a no-nonsense defender in his own right, gave away many fouls as he attempted to stop Osimhen - one of which resulted in a penalty against his side though he insisted that he got the ball.
Lookman, who was taking all the set-pieces for his team during the training session, easily converted the spot kick.
In another incident during the training game, Osimhen was at the receiving end of a rough tackle but he was able to continue the session.
Most of the players shouted at the culprit, showing the importance of the Napoli star to the Super Eagles.
