'The coach will decide if Lookman and Amoo start' - Musa on new players invited to Super Eagles
Published: March 23, 2022
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has said that it is manager Augustine Eguavoen's responsibility to decide whether or not to name Ademola Lookman and Akinkunmi Amoo in the starting lineup to face Ghana in a 2022 World Cup playoff on Friday evening.
The Leicester City winger and FC Copenhagen attacking midfielder have earned their maiden call-ups to the Super Eagles for the doubleheader against the Black Stars.
Watford midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has come back into the squad after recovering from a quad injury that kept him sidelined for appropriately four months and could be involved in some capacity against Ghana, with Wilfred Ndidid unavailable for selection.
Lookman has had his own fitness issues in recent days, having been left out of the Foxes matchday squad for the visit of Brentford due to illness and was substituted after coming on as a sub in the Europa Conference League match vs Rennes.
Asked to comment on the new invitees Lookman and Amoo, and the return of Etebo to the squad, Musa said at Wednesday's press conference : "Nigeria have a lot of talents so no matter who is called up to the national team he knows what he's going to do.
"The new players Amoo and Lookman, the coach will decide who is going to start or they are going to come from the bench.
"Everyone is ready, there is nothing new but when you come into a new team you have to understand what and what not, the Nigerian spirit."

The Super Eagles trained for the last time on Wednesday evening before their trip to Kumasi for the showdown against Ghana.
