Napoli striker Osimhen scores 70,000th goal in the history of Italian Serie A
Published: March 20, 2022Victor Osimhen wrote himself into Italian Serie A history during the match between Napoli and Udinese at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
When he cancelled out Gerard Deulofeu's first half opener in the 52nd minute, it was a historic milestone in the Italian top-flight, the 70,000th goal in the league according to Calcio News 24.
Osimhen got a goal in front of his adoring fans when he headed home a cross from Mário Rui.
Shortly after becoming the player to score the 70,000th goal in the Serie A, he also scored goal number 70,001.
The Super Eagle has now scored braces in back-to-back league matches, something he'd not previously managed since he became a professional.
Osimhen is the first Nigerian player in history to reach double figures for goals in two different seasons in the Serie A and fourth African player to achieve the feat after George
Weah, Samuel Eto'o and Mohamed Salah.
The Napoli number 9 is expected to report for international duty in the coming days ahead of Nigeria's eagerly anticipated 2022 World Cup playoff versus Ghana.
