Ikpeba berates Super Falcons victory dance vs CIV; supports invitation of Leicester CB
Published: February 22, 2022
Former Super Eagles striker and 1997 African Footballer of the Year Victor Nosa Ikpeba has admonished nine-time African Women’s football champions the Super Falcons to celebrate their first leg win in the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers against The Lady Elephants of Ivory Coast with cautious optimism.
The Falcons were eliminated by the same team enroute the football event of the 2020 Olympics and Ikpeba has warned that the two - legged fixtures with the Ivorians are not over.
"Our girls should be vigilant. It's not done and dusted for them," Ikpeba said on Monday Night Football on Supersport.
"They need to go to Cote d’Ivoire with the mentality that they haven't achieved their target. They must not underrate the Ivorians.
"They celebrated the first leg as though they have won over two legs. It's over-celebration. You have a game to play for and you are wining that much."
On the debut of Leicester City Women central defender Ashleigh Plumptre, Ikpeba stated that he supports the invitation of dual nationals irrespective of where the player was born.
"We should encourage our foreign born girls to come play for the Super Falcons. They are Nigerians after all," Ikpeba asserted.
