Two Nigerians combine to rescue point for Rangers against Dundee United; Akinola benched

Rangers failed to build on their remarkable win over Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League as they dropped points in the Scottish Premiership title race after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United at Tannadice Park on Sunday afternoon.
As for team news, Calvin Bassey was part of a four-man defence but moved to his preferred left-back position, Joe Aribo was in the middle of the park and Arsenal loanee Tim Akinola was an unused substitute for the home team.
Eighteen minutes in, Bassey created an opportunity when he set up Tavernier whose powerful volley went over the bar.
Ross Graham rose above Helander and crashed the ball into the net to break the deadlock just before the half-hour mark.
On resumption of the second half, Rangers racked up corners but could not make any of them count as Dundee United soaked up the pressure well.
The two Nigerians on the pitch Aribo and Bassey combined to rescue a point for the champions with fourteen minutes remaining.
After incessant pressure, the Super Eagles number 10 powered the ball into the net after Bassey's cut back.
Rangers pushed for the winning goal but it just couldn't come with Manchester United loanee Amad hitting the post with a powerful effort in the 84th minute and Ryan Jack's effort deflected wide moments later.
