Published: November 22, 2021Taiwo Awoniyi set a club record when he found the net for Union Berlin in their 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday, November 20.
According to the official website of the Bundesliga, the former Liverpool striker became Union Berlin's record goalscorer in the Bundesliga with 13 goals after breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute.
The Nigeria international kept his cool to slot his shot past Alexander Schwolow and set Union Berlin on course for their biggest top-flight victory over their city rivals.
The previous record was held by Germany international Max Kruse who tallied 12 goals in 31 matches, including 11 strikes during the 2020-2021 season.
Eight of Awoniyi's thirteen league goals for Union Berlin came in twelve appearances this season and the other five were scored in 21 games whilst on loan from Liverpool in 2020-2021.

Awoniyi has netted four goals in the Europa Conference League qualifiers and group stage and has one goal in the DFB Pokal, bringing his tally in all competitions to thirteen in 20 matches so far this season.
