2006 World Cup winner predicts only Osimhen and ex-Chelsea star can guarantee 25 Serie A goals
Published: October 12, 2021Former Fiorentina and Bayern Munich goal poacher Luca Toni has spoken highly of Victor Osimhen, saying that only the Napoli striker and ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham can guarantee 25 goals in this season's Italian Serie A.
While the Nigeria international tallied eight goals for club and country spread across 24 days, AS Roma's Abraham registered his name on the scoresheet five times spread across 42 days.
Toni noted that Osimhen is getting better and better under the tutelage of Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Gennaro Gattuso in the summer.
The 2006 World Cup winner praised the Super Eagles star and thinks he has similarities to the legendary AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko.
"Before he arrived in Italy I didn't know him well. I find him much improved compared to last year, also from a technical point of view and I think it's thanks to Spalletti who is very demanding," Toni said to Corriere della Sera via spazionapoli.
"In speed, then, he's devastating. He reminds me of Andriy Shevchenko for the way to vary on the whole front of attack and for the great speed. Only he and Abraham can guarantee 25 goals in Serie A ".
After seven rounds in the Italian Serie A, Osimhen has four goals to his name, two less than he tallied in his best start to a season, the six goals he netted for Lille in the 2019-2020 season.
