Villarreal coach Emery issues Chukwueze injury update pre- RCD Mallorca
Published: September 18, 2021
Samuel Chukwueze will not make his first appearance of the season on Sunday afternoon when Villarreal face Mallorca at Visit Mallorca Estadi, corresponding to the fifth round of matches in La Liga.
The Nigeria national teamer has been missing in action since he suffered an injury to the anterior rectus in the semifinal of the Europa League against Arsenal in May.
Unai Emery, manager of the Yellow Submarine, previously expressed concern that Chukwueze's recovery was not going according to plan and nothing has changed with the winger ruled out of the trip to Balearic Islands.
The type of injury suffered by Chukwueze should have kept him sidelined for three months but he hasn't made a full recovery after approximately four months.
Providing a squad update, Emery told Villarreal's official webpage : "On Sunday in Mallorca, we will focus on finding the starting XI in best shape, taking into account Tuesday’s game, and without taking into account what comes after.
"We have two players out, Samu Chukwueze and Dani Raba. Everyone else is in good shape and raring to play."
Chukwueze is doubtful to recover in time for Villarreal's upcoming matches against Elche and Real Madrid in La Liga.
