Villarreal coach provides Chukwueze injury update that will worry Rohr, Super Eagles fans
Published: September 13, 2021Villarreal manager Unai Emery has provided an update on Samuel Chukwueze that will worry Super Eagles fans and Gernot Rohr after the Spaniard revealed that the winger's recovery from injury is not going according to plan.
The Nigeria international has all but been ruled out of the Yellow Submarine's opening match in the UEFA Champions League against Atalanta BC at the Estadio de la CerĂ¡mica on Tuesday night.
In late May, Chukwueze underwent an operation to fix an
injury to his left leg, an ailment that saw him miss the Europa League
showpiece versus Manchester United.
Speaking at Monday's press conference, Emery said on Chukwueze: "He's going a little bit slower than we wanted to and we still want to go cautiously with him."
Chukwueze has missed the four competitive matches contested by Villarreal in the new season and was left out of the Super Eagles roster for their World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde this month.
Rohr is expected to name his squad for the double header against Central African Republic before the end of September.
