2014 Nigeria U23 invitee nominated for Middlesbrough Goal of the Month
Published: September 06, 2021
Championship club Middlesbrough have announced through their official website a list of four strikes nominated for the Goal of the Month for August 2021, with former Nigeria U23 invitee Uche Ikpeazu making the cut for his effort against Bristol City.
The Reading academy product, a summer arrival from Wycombe Wanderers, has had a fine start to his career at Boro, contributing two goals and an assist in his first four matches in the Championship this season.
On his home debut at the Riverside Stadium, Ikpeazu made no mistake in converting from close range after he was fed by Isaiah Jone and that strike has made the shortlist.
The three other contenders for Middlesbrough's Goal of the Month are Marc Bola's opening day leveller at Fulham, Matt Crooks' effort against QPR, and Jonny Howson's lob vs Blackburn Rovers.
Ikpeazu was left out of Boro's matchday squad in their last match before the international break due to illness.
The 26-year-old has scored 38 goals combined in the Football League for seven different clubs namely Crewe Alexandra, Doncaster Rovers, Port Vale, Blackpool, Cambridge United, Wycombe and Boro.
Former Nigeria U23 manager Samson Siasia invited Ikpeazu to a Dream Team VI training camp in December 2014.
