6 UK-based Super Eagles players, 4 others react to 2022 WCQ win vs Liberia
Published: September 04, 2021
Ten Super Eagles stars who tasted action in Friday's 2022 World Cup qualifier win against Liberia have taken to social media to react to the victory against the West African opponents.
Despite the state of the Teslim Balogun Stadium pitch, the Super Eagles eked out a 2-0 win to go two points clear at the top of the Group C standings after matchday one.
Manager Gernot Rohr went with a starting line-up containing six United Kingdom-based players namely William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho, and the aforementioned players took to Instagram to share their thoughts after the game.
Leicester City striker Iheanacho repaid the faith of the Franco-German coach when he opened the scoring midway through the first half by driving home a low effort and doubled the advantage just before half-time, with Iwobi providing the assists.
Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Nantes' Moses Simon, Omonia Nicosia's Abdullahi Shehu and Torino fullback Ola Aina were all delighted to begin the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a win.
