Super Eagles winger makes his debut for Ipswich Town vs Newport County
Published: August 10, 2021
Barring an injury in the pre-match warm-up, out-of-favour Super Eagles winger Sone Aluko will make his competitive debut for Ipswich Town when they take on Newport County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Manager Paul Cook has made ten changes to the starting eleven from Saturday's season opener against Morecambe, one of which sees Aluko earn a place in the XI.
The Nigeria national teamer became Town's 12th summer signing after penning a one-year deal last Friday, with the club having the option to extend his stay by a further twelve months.
Aluko joined the Tractor Boys as a free agent following his release by Championship outfit Reading.
The 32-year-old tried his luck at Wayne Rooney's Derby County during pre-season but the club's transfer embargo prevented them from closing the deal.
A product of Birmingham City Academy, Aluko's former clubs include Aberdeen, Glasgow Rangers, Hull City, Fulham and Beijing Renhe.
Aluko will be wearing the number 23 shirt against Newport County.
