'Has become such a good player' - Southampton's Super Eagles hopeful hails Nathan Tella
Published: August 03, 2021
Super Eagles hopeful Oludare Olufunwa admits that he has been impressed by the progress of Nigeria Football Federation target Nathan Tella over the last one year.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl has shown confidence in Tella, playing the right winger in big games against Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester City last season.
Everything is pointing to the fact that the Arsenal academy product has been fully promoted to the first team of Southampton ahead of the 2021-2022 campaign.
"I have been impressed with Nathan Tella, he has become such a good player, " Olufunwa told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"His standout qualities are his technical abilities and his speed."
The 20-year-old Olufunwa is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Tella by making his professional debut for the South Coast club in the new season.
Hasenhüttl has been running the rule over the central defender in pre-season and included him in the squads for friendlies against Fulham, Cardiff City and Swansea City.
"It's not a full promotion to the first team, it's just been training at the moment. I have learnt a lot training with the first team especially how to play at higher intensities.
"My personal target for the season is to make my debut for the first team," concluded Olufunwa.
