Confirmed : 2002-born CF Montreal striker added to Nigeria roster for friendly vs Mexico
Published: July 01, 2021
Sunusi Ibrahim has earned a late call-up to the Super Eagles for their friendly against Mexico, informs the official website of Major League Soccer club CF Montreal.
The 2002-born striker is the second foreign-based professional added to the roster ahead of Saturday's glamour friendly at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, United States, after Tottenham Hotspur youth-teamer Joshua Oluwayemi.
Twenty-two home-based players, including Enyimba duo John Noble and Anayo Iwuala, jetted out to the United States last night.
Sunusi was part of the Super Eagles B squad that failed to qualify for the 2020 African Nations Championship and has also represented Nigeria at U23 level, at the U23 AFCON in 2019.
In the current MLS season, the 18-year-old has played six games for CF Montreal - two of which he started - and logged 216 minutes.
A product of 36 Lion, he completed an off-season transfer to the Canadian club in January 2021 after undergoing trials with Watford.
Sunusi was the top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League with 10 goals in 22 games during a spell with Nasarawa United in 2019.
