Sweepstakes for Almeria striker Sadiq continue as Europa League winners Villarreal join race
Published: June 22, 2021Europa League winners Villarreal have reportedly joined the battle for the signature of in-demand Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq.
Spanish newspaper based in Almeria, Diario de AlmerĂa is reporting that the Yellow Submarine are in the market for a striker to replace former Colombia national teamer Carlos Bacca, and have targeted Sadiq.
Although Bacca has a contract with Villarreal until the end of next season, the La Liga side are considering unilaterally terminating his contract and give him a golden handshake worth 250,000 euros .
The former Nigeria U23 international could partner Gerard Moreno in attack or act as his backup next season if the deal goes through.
Dario de Almeria echoed previous reports suggesting that Sadiq wants to remain in Spain rather than join one of the Italian, German and Premier League teams he has been linked with.
Sevilla, Valencia and Getafe have been mentioned as likely destinations for the 24-year-old who was involved in 37 goals (28 goals, 9 assists) in 56 matches last term.
The former Roma and Partizan Belgrade man has a release clause of 60 millions and it is claimed that Almeria are in no hurry to sell their prized jewel as they expect more glamorous teams to make an offer after the 2020 European Championship and Copa America.
