Galatasaray coach sends transfer message to Super Eagles winger pursued by Olympiakos
Published: June 14, 2021
Henry Onyekuru would like to continue his association with Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray despite interest from Greek champions Olympiakos.
The Super Eagles winger returned to Galatasaray for a third loan spell in the winter transfer market by agreeing a deal until the end of the 2020-2021 season and the contract came with an option to buy of 4,350,000 euros.
Galatasaray were given a strict deadline, until June 11, 2021, to trigger the option to buy but the Lions failed to activate it.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, the future of manager Fatih Terim will become clear after Galatasaray's presidential election scheduled to take place on June 19.
The outgoing club president Mustafa Cengiz previously stated that Galatasaray would not continue working with Terim as from the 2021-2022 season, but the new president could have a different opinion.
The newspaper says Terim has sent a message to Onyekuru, 'Wait for news from me', before choosing his next club.
The former Everton and Eupen man scored 22 goals in 71 matches across three different spells with Galatasaray.
