Three observations from Super Eagles goalless draw against Cameroon
Published: June 08, 2021
The Super Eagles played out an uninspiring goalless draw against 2021 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Cameroon in an international friendly staged at Stadion Wiener Neustadt on Tuesday evening.
The result was not what mattered most as it was a friendly to prepare the national team for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde in September 2021.
Here are three observations allnigeriasoccer.com's Izuchukwu Okosi took away from the game :
1. Cautious Eagles
It was apparent that the Nigerian players have clocked out and are fixated on starting off their deserved holidays.
The body language towards chasing the ball or reluctance engaging in tackles were noticeable.
2. Ozornwafor Good Fit For Tactical Reasons
Valentine Ozornwafor partnered Chidozie Awaziem in central defence and it was good to have a left-footed central defender come into the team.
Just like Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Arsenal's Mikel Arteta prefer to have a left footed defender in their starting line up, it will be nice to see more of him in the team.
This creates a bit more flexibility and tactical changes at the back.
3. Effect of No Fans
There were a few supporters in the stands on Friday but there wasn't on Tuesday which was a lesser game literally.
The Super Eagles played better on Friday but with no pressure as it were, they were lackadaisical on Tuesday.
