Awaziem becomes 5th most expensive Nigerian defender in history after permanent transfer from Porto

Super Eagles center back Chidozie Awaziem is set to become the joint-fifth most expensive Nigerian defender in history when he officially completes his permanent transfer to Boavista in the summer, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Porto-owned player joined Boavista on a season-long loan last September with an option to buy included in the deal.
Having impressed over the course of the 2020-2021 campaign, Awaziem has earned himself a permanent contract at Boavista, who have triggered the purchase option in his contract set at five million euros.
Inter Milan broke the transfer record for a defender when they acquired Taribo West from Auxerre for 11.8 million euros in 1997.
The Atlanta Olympics gold medalist remains the most expensive Nigerian defender in history twenty four years later.
Torino brought Ola Aina from Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €9.80m, making him the second most expensive Nigerian defender.
There is a two-way tie for third place with Marseille's Joseph Yobo and Sporting Lisbon's Joseph Enakarhire costing six million euros each following their moves to Everton and Dynamo Moscow respectively.
Chelsea pocketed five million euros when Kenneth Omeruo swapped The Blues for CD Leganes in 2019; he is the fifth most expensive Nigeria defender along with Awaziem.
