Liverpool boss Klopp watches Azeez concede and score penalty as Arsenal are beaten in FA Youth Cup
Published: May 01, 2021Arsenal's FA Youth Cup run came to an end as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in their quarterfinal tie staged at Anfield on Friday night.
Five Nigeria-eligible players, namely goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri, defender Mazeed Ogungbo, influential midfielder Miguel Azeez, wingers Joel Ideho and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji were in action for the Gunners.
According to Liverpool Echo, The Reds first team boss Jurgen Klopp was at the stadium to run the rule over some of the exciting teenagers in the ranks of Liverpool.
The home team were 2-0 up at the interval thanks to goals from Max Woltman and James Norris, the latter converting from the spot after Azeez conceded a penalty for tripping Tyler Morton.
Mateusz Musialowski extended Liverpool's advantage seven minutes into the second half, before Azeez reduced the deficit when he dispatched a penalty on 64 minutes after Khayon Edwards was fouled inside the area.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent was also on target against Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round.
Arsenal U18s are next in action when they tackle Reading in the U18 Premier League South on May 4.
