Reading hot prospect Olise crowned EFL Young Player of the Season, named in Championship TOTS
Published: April 30, 2021
Reading playmaker Michael Olise has been crowned EA Sports Young Player of the Season at the English Football League Awards on Thursday night.
The highly-rated Franco-Anglo-Nigerian teenager won the award ahead of Blackburn Rovers winger Harvey Elliott and Norwich City fullback Max Aarons.
Olise has been one of the breakout stars of the 2020-2021 Championship season, making a huge impact for the Royals and also established himself as a first-team regular.
In 42 outings in the Championship, including 35 starts, the France youth international got as many as 3,118 minutes of game time, scoring six goals and assisted another ten.
Olise featured in the Championship Team of the Season, alongside Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma.
In a 4-4-2 formation, the 19-year-old slotted in as one of the two central midfielders.
The Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr are monitoring the progress of Olise before the start of the World Cup qualifiers, and he was placed on standby for last month's games against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.
