Sanusi's Champions League dream is over despite Porto's 1-0 victory against Chelsea
Published: April 13, 2021Porto have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League but went down fighting, beating Chelsea 1-0 on the night but losing 2-1 on aggregate.
Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi went the distance for the Portuguese Primeira Liga champions.
Manager Thomas Tuchel's game plan was clear from the start - avoid losing by three goals having won the first leg 2-0 last Wednesday.
It remained goalless at the break but Porto came close to breaking the deadlock when Corono fired a volley over the bar while Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount saw his effort from the edge of the box deflected wide for a corner.
It wasn't until the fourth minute of stoppage time that Porto got their goal, Mehdi Taremi's bicycle kick flew into the top corner and he became the first Iranian to score in the quarterfinals of the Champions League in the process.
Sanusi started every single game played by Porto in the Champions League - ten in total and logged 868 minutes.
Winners of the competition in 2012, Chelsea will face either Liverpool or Real Madrid in the last four.
