Nigeria coach Rohr plans to field strong starting lineup for AFCONQ versus Lesotho
Published: March 30, 2021
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr does not intend to field a weakened side when his team face Lesotho in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Tuesday evening.
The Nigeria vs Lesotho matchday six AFCON qualifier is now a dead rubber fixture as the Super Eagles are certain to top Group L regardless of the outcome of the result today.
The three-time African champions are already without French-based wingers Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu, Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo is rated as doubtful, while former Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo was prevented from linking up with the squad.
Asked if he'll be changing his squad and give opportunities to fringe players, Rohr answered : "We will change a little bit but I want to field the best team, we are already preparing now for the World Cup qualifiers that will start in June.
"End of May we will be here again to prepare and play the match against Liberia at first, and then we go to Central African Republic.
"Already it's a preparation, we don't have so many games so I cannot give a chance to play to everybody.
"Some of our players are still missing, our wingers Moses Simon, Kalu and perhaps Iwobi again, we will see.
"There's already space to see other solutions like we saw in Republic of Benin so we will be ready for this match, it's a short time to travel and to recover, only one training session but I think the team is ready, they want to do well to make Lagos fans happy."

The Super Eagles have not lost an African Cup of Nations or World Cup qualifier since they were beaten by South Africa on June 10, 2017.
