Asymptomatic Everton star Iwobi still in camp awaiting second medical opinion pre-Lesotho
Published: March 29, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Everton winger Alex Iwobi was still in the Super Eagles' Eko Hotels & Suites camp as at 1354 hours on Monday, a day before Nigeria take on Lesotho in their final group game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to the Republic of Benin authorities, the former Arsenal star tested positive for coronavirus and had to be withdrawn from the starting lineup just before the team headed to the stadium on Saturday.
Iwobi and the other Super Eagles players in camp have undergone another COVID-19 tests following their arrival in Lagos, and is hoping to return a negative test result which would pave the way for him to be included in the matchday 23 for tomorrow's game against the Crocodiles.
The 24-year-old, who is hale and hearty, also got tested for antibodies, and the test results are expected out later today.
He didn't attend an event held at the Eko Hotel last night to celebrate Amaju Pinnick's election into the FIFA council and was seen entering a vehicle by 2210 hours, driving off to an unknown destination.
Iwobi is Nigeria's second leading scorer in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, with three goals in four appearances.
