Iwobi sends message to Osimhen after Super Eagles win against Republic of Benin
Published: March 28, 2021
Everton star Alex Iwobi has sent a message to Victor Osimhen in the wake of the Super Eagles 1-0 win against the Republic of Benin on matchday five of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Hale End Academy product was originally named in the starting lineup to face the Squirrels but was eventually omitted from the matchday 23 altogether after he tested positive for coronavirus, just before the players and officials departed for the Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto-Novo.
It is confirmed that Iwobi wasn't spotted at the stadium on Saturday evening as he was forced to self-isolate due to the positive test result.
The whole Nigeria squad will undergo new COVID-19 testing when they arrive in Lagos on Sunday and if Iwobi returns a negative result, then his isolation ends with immediate effect.
Writing on Instagram on Sunday morning, Osimhen said : "Qualified!!!✅ #Afcon2022 🇳🇬🦅".
Responding to the Napoli striker's post, Iwobi showed his happiness and hoped for a favorable outcome, "My Bro 🤞🏽💕".
Iwobi had made twenty-two straight appearances for the Super Eagles before he was forced to miss yesterday's match versus the Squirrels.
