Chelsea goalkeeper targeted by Nigeria handed late call-up to England Youth team
Published: March 25, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the English Football Association has taken the first step to beat the Nigeria Football Federation to the services of promising youngster Prince Adegoke.
The talented Chelsea goalkeeper was handed a late call-up to join the England U18s squad on Thursday evening ahead of their international match against Wales in Cardiff.
Adegoke would still be eligible to represent Nigeria at international level even if he features in the friendly at the Leckwith Stadium on Monday, March 29 as it is a non-competitive game.
It is understood that the 2003-born glovesman has accepted the call-up and the paperwork is now being finalized before he reports for international duty.
He becomes the sixth teenager of Nigerian descent to be included in the England U18 squad for the friendly against Wales by manager Kevin Betsy , after goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi (Glasgow Celtic), Daniel Oyegoke (Arsenal), Carney Chukwuemeka (Aston Villa), Samuel Edozie (Manchester City) and Shola Shoretire (Manchester United).
Born in Farnborough, England, Adegoke is well known to Nigeria Football
Federation higher-ups and was invited to a Golden Eaglets training camp in the summer of 2019 but club and educational commitments prevented him from
traveling to Abuja.
Adegoke, who signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in November 2020, has been involved in three of the last five games played by the Blues in the U18 Premier League.
