Super Eagles camp update : Galatasaray duo Etebo, Onyekuru report for international duty
Published: March 21, 2021
The number of foreign-based professionals in camp ahead of the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has swelled to five, with the arrival of two more players.
Joining the trio of Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi and William Troost-Ekong are Galatasaray duo Oghenekaro Etebo and Henry Onyekuru, bringing the total number of players in camp to six including captain Ahmed Musa.
Originally placed on the standby list, Onyekuru was handed a late invite following the withdrawal of Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu due to a combination of injury and COVID-19 concerns.
While Etebo has made two appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, both coming against Sierra Leone, his teammate Onyekuru has been in the international wilderness since he came off the bench against Algeria at the last AFCON in the summer of 2019.
Nigeria will face Benin at the Stade Charles de Gaulle in
Porto-Novo on March 27 and wrap up their schedule three days later
against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The Super Eagles will hold a training camp in Lagos before traveling to neighbors Benin for the matchday five fixture.
