By scoring a brace for Crotone in their 3-2 loss to Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma on Friday, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo has entered the history books as the Nigerian player with the most goals in a single-season in the Italian Serie A.
The previous Nigerian record was held by former Inter Milan wonderkid Obafemi Martins who scored 11 goals in his most productive season as a professional back in the 2004-2005 campaign.
The Sharks found themselves trailing 1-0 with fourteen minutes played but Simy equalised for the visitors as he fired home a precise shot from the edge of the area in the 29th minute.
Five minutes into the second half, the lanky attacker brought Crotone back on level terms again and took his league tally to twelve when he converted a spot kick, sending goalkeeper Pepe Reina the wrong way after Messias was fouled by Mohamed Fares in the area.
Simy has seemed unstoppable since this month started, netting in three consecutive matches - against Atalanta, Torino and Lazio.
In the goalscoring chart for the Serie A, only eight players have scored more than the Crotone number 25.
