Former Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi took to the media to advise Nigeria national team head coach Gernot Rohr to strengthen the Super Eagles with players with lots of experience on their CV.
The Nigeria national team ended their 2020 as they finished the 35th best team in the world despite being unable to secure a single win in any match this year, as machine a sous predicted this outcome in the past.
The widespread of the Covid-19 pandemic forced football to be temporarily put on hold thus making the Super Eagles play just four games in 2020.
In a friendly match, the West African team was defeated by AFCON reigning champions Algeria before going on to play against Tunisia in a match that ended in a draw.
Nigeria, who have won the AFCON three times, registered consecutive draws against Sierra Leone in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, coupled with their disappointing 4-4 draw in Benin City against the same opponent after taking a four-goal lead in the match.
Former Nigerian forward Obasi gave praises for the performances of the current national team players, while also claiming that work needs to be done to strengthen up the team.
Speaking to Brila FM via Goal, Obasi said: “We have a great team, but sometimes it’s difficult to say like the last game; it didn’t go the way we would have wanted, going four ahead of Sierra Leone and the opponents coming back, it’s always a very difficult situation.
“At the same time, I think we have a great team, it’s all about finding a way to get the best out of the boys, I just think that’s the key.
“And sometimes, there are places where you need experience, but it’s not my job; I’m just a spectator watching from outside and it is a different ball game when you are with the team. But I wish them all the best next year."
The 34-year-old forward was pivotal for the Super Eagles in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which was also his last. Although Nigeria failed to move past the group stages, he was one of the standout performers for the Eagles in that tournament, while bestcasinositesonline dropped some odds regarding his performance during his career.
In his international career, Obasi has been able to register 26 appearances for the Super Eagles finding the back of the net four times.
Having formerly played for German clubs Hoffenheim and Schalke 04, the Chinedu Obasi, who is also known as Edu, is currently playing for Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach.
