Algeria, Tunisia Friendly Games Could Be The Audition For Racing Genk's Dessers
Published: September 30, 2020Super Eagles invitee, Cyril Dessers has not quite hit the ground running this season, it must be said.
After emerging as the joint-topscorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 15 goals from 26 matches last season, the striker earned a celebrated move to Genk during the off-season but has struggled to establish himself in the Belgian top flight.
His wane in form has seen him playing second fiddle to countryman, Paul Onuachu at the Luminus Arena and has thrown up conversations as to the initiative behind leaving out the Nigeria international for the upcoming games.
Ahead of a potential debut for Nigeria next month, it surely should be enough reason for concern for the new man who has yet to kick the ball in back-to-back games for his club.
There is even some thought that any game time he gets in either of the games next month will be important for him, as any lapses glimpsed could prove terminal in his stint with the Super Eagles.
Most players have borne the brunt of such case, as we've seen in recent times, either cast aside after an off-colour debut or having to rely on player injuries or personnel absences to get back in the team.
That perhaps, might be the case for the former Utrecht and NAC Breda man particularly if he fails to show up or fluffs chances when called upon by Gernot Rohr come October.
That said, Dessers has proven himself to be a really top player, but it remains to be seen if he can translate his Heracles club form to the national team.
He can very much do so, but the October friendlies can as well prove to be his undoing.
