Carabao Cup Goal Of The Round : Charlton Athletic Striker Aneke's Goal Nominated
Published: September 08, 2020
Former Arsenal youth-teamer Chuks Aneke's strike against Swindon Town has been shortlisted for the Carabao Cup Goal of the Round for round one.
The Charlton Athletic striker entered the game as a substitute in the 71st minute as the Addicks advanced to the second round thanks to their 3-1 win at the County Ground.
Aneke set up the second goal scored by Charlie Barker three minutes after entering the fray before smashing home at the near post from inside the area to make it 3-1.
To take the prize, Aneke's goal is up against Swindon's Jonny Smith, Reading's Lucas Joao, Plymouth Argyle's Frank Nouble and Cheltenham Town's Liam Sercombe.
The 27-year-old's strike against the Robins was his second in a Charlton Athletic jersey since joining the club last summer, with the other coming against Stoke City in August 2019.
Prior to Aneke's move to Charlton, he turned out for Zulte Waregem and MK Dons, and spent time on loan at Stevenage, Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra during his Arsenal days.
