Published: June 13, 2020
One-time Super Eagles invitee Anthony Nwakaeme picked up where he left off before the Turkish Super Lig was halted by getting on the scoresheet to help Trabzonspor defeat Goztepe 3-1 in a matchday 27 fixture at the Goztepe Gursel Aksel Stadium, Izmir on Friday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Sixteen minutes into the contest, the red-hot winger reacted quickest to nod home the opener following a cross from João Pereira.
In doing so, Nwakaeme took his tally for the season in all competitions to an impressive 14 goals, with eleven of them coming in the league, from 38 appearances.
The 31-year-old has provided eleven assists, taking his goal contribution to 25, one more than he managed over the course of last season.
A penalty converted by Caleb Ekuban gave Trabzonspor a 2-0 lead, Alpaslan Ozturk halved the deficit, before Abdulkadir Omur sealed the win with a goal on 84 minutes.
In the provisional standings, Trabzonspor are first with 56 points ahead of their next league game against Alanyaspor on Monday, June 22.
