Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has confirmed a report by allnigeriasoccer.com that Liverpool-owned midfielder Ovie Ejaria has switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The football administrator has claimed that Ejaria's paperwork has been filed with world football's governing body, FIFA.
However, FIFA will certainly not process a change of association because the player's Nigerian passport has expired, meaning a fresh application has to be submitted.
Two out of the five documents the Nigerian Federation must submit to FIFA are a copy of Ejaria's passport evidencing his Nigerian nationality, which is valid at the time the request for a change of association is submitted; and a copy of Ejaria’s passport or identification evidencing his English nationality.
"Yes, he has agreed to play for Nigeria. His documents have been sent to FIFA since," Pinnick said to ESPN.
An unnamed Super Eagles team source has admitted that Ejaria's documentation would probably need to be re-filed after the coronavirus lockdown.
