'I Like Him, He's A Great Alternative' - Ex-Man Utd Striker Owen Hails Ighalo's Impact Off The Bench
Manchester United boosted their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League after beating Manchester City 2-0 in a derby game at Old Trafford on Sunday evening, leaving Liverpool two wins away from the Premier League title.

Anthony Martial volleyed in at the near post to give Manchester United the lead on the half hour mark and Scott McTominay sealed the win with a brilliant long-range strike after intercepting Ederson's throw in the 97th minute.

Former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo came off the bench to replace Bruno Fernandes in the 88nd minute and it was his hold-up play that led to the sequence for the second goal scored by United.

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has admitted his admiration for the former Nigeria international and pointed out the role he played in the build-up to the second goal.

In his post match thoughts, Owen said on Premier League Productions : "Ighalo look at the strength and awareness. I like him, I must admit. I think he's a great alternative.

"Hats off to McTominay because he could have easily sat in midfield, get behind the ball, make sure we don't take any risks. He anticipates it, he leaves his position".

Ighalo found the net on his full debut for Manchester United in the FA Cup and Europa League but is still searching for his goal in the Premier League, having made four appearances as a substitute.
