Teenage Striker Of Nigerian Descent Makes Competitive Debut For Chelsea U23s
Published: March 02, 2020Norwegian-born striker of Nigerian descent Bryan Fiabema has made his competitive debut for Chelsea U23s, ten days after the Blues confirmed his acquisition from Eliteserien side Tromso, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The recently turned 17-year-old came on for Thierno Ballo seventeen minutes into the second half as The Blues registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League 2 on Monday night.
Fiabema enjoyed his first taste of action for a Chelsea squad when he played for the U18s as a substitute vs Brighton & Hove on February 21, before making the bench against Millwall in the FA Youth Cup six days later.
One of the stars of Norway's U17 squad, he has signed a professional contract with Chelsea and will be aiming to work his way into the first team.
Luke McCormick netted the game-wining goal from the spot after Ruben Loftus-Cheek was fouled in the box to earn Chelsea all three points.
Promising Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe looked lively for Chelsea and tested the Toffees goalkeeper several times, while top scorer for the U23s Faustino Anjorin was not in the matchday squad.
Everton's Dennis Adeniran was the other player of Nigerian descent on parade at Electrical Services Stadium and the versatile midfielder played the full game.
