'We Are Looking For Strikers For Senior Team' - Ex-Schalke Star Tips Bayern's Nigeria-Eligible Striker Zirkzee For Netherlands Call-Up
Published: December 30, 2019Ex-Schalke striker and Netherlands international Youri Mulder believes Bayern Munich wonderkid of Nigerian descent Joshua Zirkzee could be rewarded with a call-up to the Dutch senior squad ahead of the 2020 European Championship.
Aged 18, Zirkzee came off the bench to score two match-winning goals in his first two appearances in the German Bundesliga - against Freiburg and Wolfsburg - with his first contact with the ball on both occasions.
Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman is reportedly looking for offensive reinforcements following the injuries suffered by Lyon's Memphis Depay and PSV's Donyell Malen.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Mulder said : "An incredible story for the boy personally, but also for us Dutch.
"After the serious injuries of our top goalscorer Memphis Depay (cruciate ligament rupture) and Donyell Malen (knee injury), we are looking for strikers for the senior team.
"And if Zirkzee continues to develop like this, he will definitely become a topic soon."
Former Feyenoord youth-teamer Zirkzee has earned caps for Netherlands U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 national teams.
