Promising winger Deji Sotona has become the the third player of Nigerian descent to debut for Manchester United U18 team in the last few weeks, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Free-scoring striker Mipo Odubeko played his first competitive game for the Red Devils at U18 level against Blackburn Rovers on February 23, followed by Shola Shoretire who made his U18 debut in the 2-2 draw with West Brom two weeks ago.
Sotona was handed his debut when he came on in the 81st minute as replacement for Ethan Galbraith in an U18 Premier League fixture at Newcastle United Football Academy on Saturday afternoon.
Born in 2002, he is a very pacy and tricky winger in the mould of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.
Eligible for Nigeria through his parents, Sotona has made appearances for Republic of Ireland U15 and U16 national teams.
He represented Mullingar Athletic AFC and Leixlip United before he was snapped up by Manchester United.
Manchester United beat Newcastle 3-1 thanks to goals from Charlie McCann (2) and Anthony Elanga.
